Rain or shine, today was a great day to laugh and Rain or shine, today was a great day to laugh and find joy through music. We really miss our usual street choir family these days, but Brant and Kenny got to make music with nine fantastic gentleman - we are thankful for their willingness to put the hardships of daily life on hold to come together and find joy through communal singing.

I'll be honest - I could not possibly be more prou I'll be honest - I could not possibly be more proud of the people in this picture. This was taken at our performance on Friday at Big Momma's, a cold, wet day that was just slightly too warm for the shelters to be open, but my hands and feet were numb after being outside for about 15 minutes. A bunch of our singers showed up to the performance soaked, so we scrambled to find them dry clothes to wear, and gave out dry socks to everyone (thanks @bombas!) and fed them a hot meal (thanks @cafecusco!) This crew knew they were facing a long, cold wet night outside, and nonetheless sang with palpable joy for the standing-room-only crowd. There was not a dry eye in the audience by the time we were done.

Something remarkable is happening among this group of people - something with joy and hope and belonging and affirmation and connection. It's amazing how something this simple - just singing together and hour a week - something that changes nothing about our singers' circumstances, can somehow change everything.
This Giving Tuesday, we would like to ask you to support us on this journey. Your donations go directly to the benefit of our homeless singers and friends, and they MATTER. If you give us $20 this morning, that will go into the hands of 10 people this afternoon as crisp new $2 bills. Want to give $100? That will pay for the incentives for the whole choir this week. We need your support today, and throughout the year, and are most grateful for every gift we receive, large and small. Can you make a gift now using our #linkinbio? Thank you in advance for your kindness. You make this work possible. -- Katie Kring, Founding Director
Here at the Springfield Street Choir, we are all a Here at the Springfield Street Choir, we are all about the Jeffersons. Every week we hand out 50+ fresh, crisp $2 bills as incentives to our singers for participating. This is by far our more popular incentive, and people love getting the $2 bills. The great thing about giving out unique currency is that we know that our singers will remember their place in the choir when they go to use it.
But, of course, these don't come free. We need your continued financial support to do what we do for our homeless friends. So please, consider making a one-time or recurring donation to help keep us in $2s. You can make a donation at our #linkinbio. Thanks in advance!
There's nothing that makes us happier than seeing There's nothing that makes us happier than seeing our homeless friends having FUN! Last night we started on Christmas music, and people absolutely lit up. We also had our biggest group ever - 59 singers! If you are having a Christmas event and want us to come sing for you, we would love to do it. Just drop us a line!
Thursday night, we took our show on the road for t Thursday night, we took our show on the road for the very first time. We had been invited by @thevenueschurch to help celebrate the opening of their new downtown space @thevenuesat425, and what an amazing experience this was!

For their first foray out in public, our singers stood in front of a standing-room-only crowd of hundreds of strangers and sang their hearts out. What remarkable courage! And they were met with thunderous applause, a standing ovation, and calls for an encore (which we gladly offered.) Praise and affirmation are so sorely lacking from the lives of our homeless friends. For many of them, when was the last time a stranger so much as said hello, let alone cheered for them? How often does someone tell them how proud they are of their accomplishments? Virtually never. So to do a hard and brave thing and be celebrated and applauded for it, that's so valuable. One singer said afterwards that this was the most fun she'd had in years. Another had people sign his incentive $2 bill so that his mother could hang it up and be proud of him.
Even before the performance, when we handed out our brand-new Springfield Street Choir t-shirts, you could see a change in demeanor. Pride. Self-worth. Belonging. Accomplishment.
And we have no illusions. A choir isn't going to keep anyone's body warm on a cold night. It can keep the spirit aloft though, can bring dignity and meaning and purpose. So that's what we're here to do.
If you missed it, we are singing at The Connecting Grounds tonight at 6pm.
And if you're moved by what we're doing, please support us. Any donation, no matter how small, helps us continue to empower our singers.

Here is an excerpt of the singers learning Dolly Parton’s, “Travelin’ Thru”. A project such as this truly takes a village and none of it would be possible without the generosity of our donors and supporters. Stay tuned for more updates to come!

We had our second rehearsal this afternoon, and then after we ate dinner, we sang for the rest of the crowd enjoying their meal. We had 23 singers rehearse with us today, and over half were brave enough to stand up and sing in front of everybody at dinner. We're so proud of everyone's hard work and progress and we can't wait for next week!
